BodyPump is a fast-paced workout that uses the repetition of light-to-moderate weights to the beat of some great tunes. Here's what you should know before you get to your first class:
Before Class
- Make sure to wear clothing and sneakers that are comfortable.
- As group fitness classes do have caps on how many people can participate at once, make sure to arrive a little early. If you're brand new to the class, try to get a spot near the instructor to see the moves clearly.
- The instructor will tell you what equipment you need at the beginning of the class.
- Bring a water bottle, but there's a water fountain close by if you forget!
The Class
- BodyPump is a full-body workout, so be prepared to use moves and techniques you may not have before. The instructor can help if you have questions, and you can modify any technique to fit your needs.
- Some equipment you'll use include barbells, bench tops with risers, and mats. You don't need to bring anything but some water and a good attitude!
- Depending on the day, classes are 45 or 60 minutes long.
- The class layout works everything from your chest and shoulders to your legs and core, starting with a warm-up before you get into the bulk of the class, and finishing off with a cool-down before you leave.
- Participants are free to use the weights they're comfortable with, but if you're new to weights and/or BodyPump, start off light and work up from there.
- The great thing about BodyPump is that you can make it as easy or as hard as you like, depending on what weights you use. Even if you're just starting out with lighter weights, you're still getting a great workout.
