The Peope of Campus Rec: Krista & Kyle

"To me, Campus Rec isn't just a job, some intramural sports or the gym. It's a place to unwind, release stress, or see people you may not normally get to."
While two long-time Campus Rec employees differ in job title, they share one sentiment – "If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life." A job you love doesn't feel like a job, especially when you're surrounded by friends.
Krista is a senior with an individually designed major that focuses on sports management and business. Krista is in her fourth year with Campus Rec and works as the head supervisor for sports programs and is on the risk management committee. Kyle is a senior Biological Science major. Coming in at the end of his third year with Campus Rec, he works as the ice sports manager. Both Kyle and Krista played sports growing up, and when they were looking for jobs on campus, they found postings for the role sports officials. They both were interested in making connections on campus while keeping up with sports as an old passion of theirs.
While Krista and Kyle now have different roles, their favorite part of their jobs remains the same – spending time around their amazing coworkers. The two of them both name a lot of their friends as people they've met through Campus Rec! Despite the differences in interests and lifestyles between employees, in Kyle's words, "everyone has Campus Rec in common." In her supervisory position, Krista loves to train new employees. "I love to see how new officials learn and I get really excited when they utilize their training during their shifts or tell me they are really excited to get started."
When they're not in the gym or on the rink, the two of them love hiking, skiing, and hanging out with friends. Krista loves to spend time with friends and try new things, and Kyle loves to play intramural sports and explore Burlington. Be it through a job or just coming in to work out occasionally, Krista recommends that students participate in Campus Rec – even if they don't know what they want to get out of it at first, there are plenty of opportunities to find out. "Making friends at work will help to make it into a place you can love!" Kyle recommends. "Your coworkers can become some of your closest friends very quickly, and building those relationships really can change your perspective on work."
