The ins and outs of a UVM Campus Rec Cycling class.
You've never attended a cycling class before and you're wondering what it's all about – read on! Cycling is an amazing workout and will get you sweating and smiling at the same time (didn't think that was possible? Think again!).
Arrive at the class at least 10 minutes early to get dibs on the bike you want and adjust it to your body. The instructor will help you adjust the bike! Fill up your water bottle, hop on the bike and get comfortable as you wait for the class to begin. Classes are typically 45 minutes to an hour in duration.
The music will start playing and your instructor will introduce themselves and tell you how the bike works before starting the workout. They will have a microphone so you can hear them even over the best songs. They will tell you when to switch gears, where to put your hands, and how to position your body during the entire class. And as you go, your instructor will be doing the workout with you, so when in doubt, just keep your eyes on them!
The class has started and you'll begin with a short warmup, usually lasting the length of one song. Then the fun begins, you'll begin to build up the resistance and change pace with each song. You'll be cycling to upbeat music to keep you energized! Again, the instructor is telling you what to do – so don't stress. And there will be frequent water break reminders and opportunities to take a breather.
The instructor is guiding you, but if you want to make it easier or more challenging, go ahead! It's always encouraged to take your cycling class into your own hands. This is your time and your class!
Your workout is ending and it's time for a cool down, you're still cycling but slowing it down and catching your breath. Eventually you'll hop off your bike and your instructor will lead you through a series of stretches. You disinfect your bike with a sanitizing wipe and you're done!
If you want to monitor your physical activity, purchase a MyZone strap – an accessory that tracks heart rate, calories, and time exercising.
At UVM Campus Rec we offer Cycling, Total Body Cycling, and RPM cycling! Check out our group fitness schedule to learn when you can come and try it out!
