PEAC 017: Military Fitness
Instructor: Jason Beams & Joseph Pittard
Semesters Offered: Fall & Spring
Fee: $0
This course is designed to provide participating students with an introduction to Military Physical Fitness training per Army Field Manual 21-20, Physical Fitness Training. The course will challenge students every with at least 45 minutes of physical training. Classes, whenever possible, will take place outside; the classes will shift indoors for inclement weather. At least one class session will take place in the UVM pool.
PEAC 018: Rock Climbing
Instructor: Craig Morrill
Semesters Offered: Fall & Spring
Fee: $180
Basic climbing techniques, holds, and strategies are taught in rock climbing. Additionally, students will learn how to belay and become familiar with climbing etiquette and safety practices. This class is held off-campus; students will be required to sign a transportation waiver and provide their own transportation. Please see the special instructions page for more information.
PEAC 027: Group Fitness

Fee: $95
This class is graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis. Students who enroll in group fitness will be automatically registered for a group fitness semester pass. To receive a passing grade, students must attend a minimum of 25 group fitness classes throughout the semester. Class attendance can be both in-person or virtual. There is no limit as to the number of classes that may be attended and, although it is recommended that students participate in a variety of classes, it is not a requirement. This class is great for regular group fitness participants who are looking for an additional credit or students who are new to group fitness and would like an incentive to participate and try a variety of classes. PEAC 073: Martial Arts: Aikido
Instructor: Benjamin Pincus

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that emphasizes dynamic, circular throws and pins rather than strikes and kicks. Aikido means "the way of harmonizing with internal power," or ki. We will practice aerobic conditioning, flexibility and relaxation skills that also cultivate the development of core power and internal energy, falling skills and self-defense techniques. Aikido emphasizes paired practice rather than solo exercises. Please see the special instructions page for more information.
PEAC 074: Kickboxing for Self-Defense
Instructor: Scott Graner
Semesters Offered: Fall & Spring
Fee: $80
This course will teach the basic techniques of competitive kickboxing, and then adapt those techniques to create a powerful system for personal protection. Half of each class will involve training "boot camp" style to build up students' strength and endurance and the second half will involve skill development in learning how to properly apply power through a myriad of techniques and combinations.
PEAC 083: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 1-2
Instructor: Mathew Berman

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art and sport. Its emphasis on control and leverage allows a smaller person to defeat a larger opponent. This course aims to teach beginners and novices the basic techniques and concepts of BJJ for use in both sport and self-defense scenarios. This class is designed for white belts with zero (beginner) to three stripes (novice).
PEAC 090: Personal Fitness

Fee: $50
This class is graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis. To receive a passing grade, students must participate at least 30 times in Campus Recreation offerings. Campus Rec offerings include utilizing the fitness center/indoor track & courts/upper track, intramural sports, group fitness classes, and drop-in sports. There is no limit as to the number of times someone can participate, although it is recommended that students participate in a variety of offerings/activities, it is not a requirement. This class is great for regular participants who are looking for an additional credit or students who are new to fitness and would like an incentive to become physically active.
PEAC 082: Advanced Kickboxing & Self-Defense

This course picks up where PEAC 074: Kickboxing for Self-Defense left off. More intense boxing rounds, advanced kicking techniques, footwork drills and simultaneous block/strike combinations. Students will be introduced to basic weapons training including single stick, defending with and against a knife, and available weapons. This course will amp up the conditioning with more circuits, plyometrics and strength training to add power to your strikes. Intended for students who have taken the level I PEAC 074 Kickboxing for Self-Defense course or have attended at least a semester of the Campus Rec Kickboxing classes.
