Think you are seeing double? Well, it turns out you are! Meet Ashley and Emma Meyer, twin sisters who share more in common than just their DNA. They are both senior nursing majors in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and have both worked for Campus Rec through their entire time here at UVM.
From East Greenbush, New York, Ashley and Emma toured the UVM campus October of their senior year of high school. Smitten with the scenery and finding comfort in the welcoming environment, they both applied and were accepted. They each independently committed to UVM and then told each other the big news. Once they arrived on campus in the fall of their freshman year, in true Meyer sisters fashion, they applied to on-campus jobs and were both individually hired by UVM Campus Rec.
Ashley started her Campus Rec journey as an assistant supervisor for intramural sports. She was promoted to an official supervisor in her junior year. When asked what drew her to this position, Ashley said, "I just saw this job as an opportunity to get to know new people. I have since made so many friends working here." She has found working at Campus Rec to be an amazing resource, "it was such a great place to practice my interview skills."
Emma began as a member service representative and moved up to a facility operations supervisor during her sophomore year. Occasionally you'll find her wearing the hat of facility operations attendant as well. She quickly found her place among the Campus Rec crew and credits her, "wonderful bosses and management team for being so welcoming." Her favorite part of the job is making meaningful connections and working with her peers.
When they aren't off studying or working you may find these two sisters at center field singing the national anthem for UVM sporting events. Driven, hardworking, motivated, and studious are just a few adjectives that could be used to describe this multitalented duo.
With their time at UVM coming rapidly to a close, Ashley and Emma have big plans for their future. "I want to work in Albany as a nurse for a little while to get my feet wet, but my biggest dream is to work as a travel nurse," Ashley said, "I want to be able to see everywhere and gain different experiences as I go." Emma wants to continue her schooling, "I want to go back to school to become a neonatal nurse practitioner." While she isn't sure where she will end up, she knows she will be happy with her career path.
Reflecting on her years working for UVM Campus Rec, Emma stated, "as cliché as it is, it's crazy how fast it goes by. Freshman year coming to work I was nervous and it was overwhelming. I didn't know this school, I didn't know the people. Working for Campus Rec was a great way integrate into UVM and feel like I was a part of something bigger than myself."Written by: Sarah Horrigan, UVM
