However, sticking to a habit of exercise can be difficult. Here are some tips to stay motivated!
Have a Specific Goal in Mind
- It's easy to tell yourself that you're going to "work out more". But what does that mean? How much more? What do you want to get better at? How are you going to work towards that? Laying out a specific, time-oriented, trackable, and achievable goal will make sticking to your New Years Resolution all the easier.
- You can't expect to be running marathons and be bench pressing your friends within minutes of making a resolution. Self-betterment through exercise takes time and commitment. Start your new routine off slowly with workouts you can handle.
- It can be hard to motivate yourself to workout after a long day of work and classes. However, if you make a commitment to a friend to hit the gym, you'll have more motivation to go, and you may just enjoy it even more than going alone.
- It's impossible to scroll through Instagram nowadays and not see fitspo videos of athletes running through nearly impossible workout circuits. Keep workouts simple as you're just getting started to avoid getting overwhelmed or burned out.
- Some people think running on a treadmill for hours is the height of entertainment. Others, however, think there's nothing duller than that. It's important to find a form of exercise you enjoy so that doing it often doesn't feel like a chore. Campus Rec has several different ways for you to get moving, including personal fitness training, Live Fit!, group fitness classes, intramural sports, drop-in sports, and more! There's something for everyone.
