The People of Campus Rec: Janey

"Everyone should at least try to play intramural sports at some point in their college career. Joining teams and being a part of something bigger really helped my transition into college life here at UVM."
Janey, a sophomore Data Science major, believes that sports are the key to happiness. Whether it be watching, playing in, or refereeing games, Janey is always somewhere to be seen at Patrick Gym. Growing up, she played soccer and basketball religiously - while transitioning into college, she worried she wouldn't have the opportunity to play the sports that she loved. Now, through Campus Rec, she gets to do that and more!
Janey is a valued scorekeeper and official for most of Campus Rec's intramural sports games, including soccer, basketball, hockey, volleyball, and trenchball! Outside of the gym, you might see Janey partaking in insanely cool hiking, skiing, and backpacking trips; she has even backpacked in the Adirondacks! When not in Vermont, Janey loves to spend time with her family back home in Colorado. She loves school and learning new things - so much so that she plans to eventually continue her education after graduation from UVM in Colorado.
Some advice that Janey has for anyone new to Campus Rec (or even new to college in general) is to be proud and confident in who you are. Although easier said than done, Janey believes that in order to cultivate the life that you want, being confident in your decision making is key. In her words, "if you are confident in yourself, everything else becomes a lot easier".
