Depending on how long you're been on campus, there's a pretty good chance you know what Campus Rec is all about - we provide opportunities for student participation in recreational activities throughout the year. However, there may be a few things you don't know about Campus Rec! Here are our top 10.
Did you know that…
10. There are many different ways to work out!
Campus Rec offers several different ways to get moving. With dozens of group fitness classes each week, a spacious fitness center, two intramural sports sessions each semester, several personal trainers and different workout programs, there's bound to be a fitness program for you!
9. You can rent equipment!
Got a little bit of time and want to shoot a ball around? Or maybe you're checking out kickboxing for the first time and want to protect your hands -either way, Campus Rec offers equipment check-out for everything from dodgeballs and jump ropes to pinnies and racquets, available for students to check out anytime the fitness center desk is open. You can also purchase equipment here!
8. We have free events!
Not sure if you want to commit to a group or individual fitness pass? That's ok! Campus Rec runs several free programs like drop-in sports and open rec as well as special events like Rec The Night and Last Blast!
7. Group fitness passes are now on sale!
On the other hand, if you are looking to pick up a group fitness pass, now is a great time! As of October 14, fitness passes are $20 off their normal price. If you haven't gotten your group pass yet, now is a fantastic time to purchase one!
6. There are for-credit fitness classes!
Looking to meet credit requirements, or trying to schedule some exercise into your day? Look no further than this upcoming semester's PEAC classes! These one-credit classes provide a vast array of different recreation opportunities, regardless of previous experience. Some upcoming classes include SCUBA, tennis, yoga, and rock climbing!
5. We offer CPR & First Aid Certification training!
Campus Rec offers a lot more than just fitness classes, we also provide American Red Cross Certification courses! Many summer jobs require CPR and First Aid training - don't hesitate to sign up!
4. We have swim lessons!
It's never too late to learn how to swim. The Vermont Swim School provides swimmers of any age to practice their aquatic skills in a safe and supportive environment.
3. You can become a certified yoga instructor!
Yoga enthusiasts take note - we offer a 200h yoga instructor certification course! While attending Yoga School, students and community members alike can deepen their connection to their personal practice of yoga while learning how to instruct others. Registration for the 2020-2021 training opens on February 14, 2020.
2. We have a bouldering wall, an indoor track, and more!
When students enter the gym, the first thing they usually see are the basketball courts. Our facilities don't stop there! Along with the Campus Recreation Studio and the Patrick Multipurpose room, we have an indoor track, pool, turf and tennis courts, basketball courts, a bouldering wall, racquetball courts, and several outdoor fields!
1. We hire students!
Last but certainly not least, did you know we hire different teams of student employees? From marketing assistants to intramural sports officials, we may just have the on-campus job you've been dreaming of. We offer both work-study and non-work study jobs! Keep an eye out for openings.
