How to Steer Clear of Gym Germs
11/30/2018 11:04:00 AM | The Well
As fall quickly turns to winter, the UVM fitness center will remain a warm safe haven in which to workout. But with cold weather comes a congested gym (pun intended) and you know what that means, THE SPREADING OF GERMS! So how can you avoid picking up germs while still getting your cardio work out? Well it's simple…
Wash your hands!
This is an easy way to rid yourself of the germs you may have picked up off the elliptical. There are also a number of hand sanitizer pumps in the fitness center for you to use while you are there.
Wipe down the equipment.
Disinfect the machines, mats, and weights before and after use. The towels and spray bottles are there for a reason! If you can't find spray, ask our staff.
Bring your own equipment!
BYO water bottle, towel, and yoga matt to avoid using dirty equipment entirely. Stop by a Campus Rec tabling session for a chance to win a free Nalgene.
Avoid touching your face.
Hair in your eyes? Sweat on your forehead? Use the back of your hand or forearm to assist, not your hand which has likely touched a slew of germy surfaces.
While these tips may seem trivial, they will help you avoid catching a cold this season. Don't let flu season keep you at home, enjoy the fitness center while keeping these easy tips in mind!
