University of Vermont Campus Recreation

Gregg Bates is the Director of Campus Recreation and Associate Athletic Director in the Department of Athletics at the University of Vermont where he has worked for more than 20 years. He began working in the sports industry as a sports marketing intern at the University of New Hampshire while earning a BA in Sports Administration. Bates later worked as a graduate intern for intramural sports at the University of Connecticut before moving to Vermont. In addition leading Campus Recreation, Bates is responsible for the oversight of all facility scheduling and coordinates all department summer camps. He also serves on the department’s Policy and Planning Committee, Event Operations Committee and the Budget and Operations Committee.

Bates is active in the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). As a member since 1996 he has served two terms as a the Vermont State Director, co-hosted a NIRSA Region 1 Conference, served as chair of the Region 1 Student Scholarship Committee, served on the Nominations and Election Committee, and presented at various regional and national conferences.

A New Hampshire native and current Williston resident, Bates and his wife, Meredith, have two children, Allison and Billy.
