Group Fitness Policies
Participate at your own risk. Take breaks when needed. Modify exercises when appropriate in a safe and respectful manner. We reserve the right to remove access to our programming to any participant that does not uphold our “Participant Conduct Policy”.
Reservations
First come first serve for a spot in class. We do not allow members to hold spots for other people.
Cancellation
Classes and instructors are subject to change. Campus Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class due to staff illness, consistently low attendance, or facility closures. Notification will be posted on the EMS schedule on our website. There are no refunds for passes due to alterations in the schedule. Please check the website class schedule for the most up-to-date information regarding group fitness classes.
Class Logistics
Class size is limited to the class type, equipment requirements, and studio size. Please arrive a minimum of 10 minutes early to ensure your spot in the class. To check-in we require an active Cat Card or the Get Mobile on your iPhone. If you are staying for back-to-back classes, you must exit and re-enter the class. The staff will not begin to allow members to enter a class until the studio is clear. To ensure safety and quality programming we cannot allow entry to the studio 5-minutes after the class has started. We prefer everyone arrive at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Studio class logistics
- Arrive early to set up equipment, class begins at the scheduled class time.
- Check in with your instructor before class if you have questions, need accomodations or modifications.
Equipment
- You are welcome to bring a mat or use one of our mats, we encourage you to fill your water bottle before class, to wear clean shoes, and bring a sweat towel.
- Participants are responsible for wiping down equipment before and after use.
- If you choose to use cubbies or lockers, please wipe down cubbies before and after use.
Shoes
Closed-toe CLEAN athletic shoes must be worn while participating in group fitness classes. Participants without proper footwear will be asked to leave. Shoes may be removed for yoga, Pilates, Barre, Martial Arts, and Dance.
Participant Hygiene & Safety
- Please stay home if you are sick.
- Members are encouraged to wash or sanitize their hands before class and after class.
- If you need to exit class early, please inform your instructor so we know you are ok.
Cell Phones
• In order to provide optimal experience in class we ask that members avoid phone use in our studios. Out of respect to the people in our classes we do not allow the use of photography for personal use. There are lockers to secure our personal belongings. If there is an urgent need for a phone in class please silence the phone, check-in with the instructor before class and to leave the room to use the phone. Phones are disruptive to instructors and other participants.
Class Location
Group Fitness Hub - take a right when entering Patrick Gym and walk through a few sets of double doors, located across from the indoor tennis court/turf facility.
Implied Consent for Fitness Programs
When individuals enter into an activity or program (in-person or remote) with Campus Recreation at The University of Vermont, they are implying consent to the following policies:
- The participant fully understands the risks and hazards of personal injury, including death or loss of property that may arise through participation in any Campus Recreation activity and assumes all risks associated with their participation.
- The participant agrees to release and hold harmless the University of Vermont and its employees from all liability in the event of injuries or aggravated physical conditions sustained during or as a result of their participation. It is recommended that all participants consult a medical doctor before participation.
- The participant agrees to permit The University of Vermont – Campus Recreation to release video and pictures regarding participation in Campus Recreation for marketing purposes. Participants that require restrictions on the filming and photo policy should seek accommodations from the instructor before the start of a class where filming/photographing is to take place.

HOW DOES THE GROUP FITNESS PASS WORK?
The group fitness pass grants the pass holder access to an unlimited number of group fitness classes during that semester/summer. Arrive to the class of your choice and present your UVM CATcard at the check-in station.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?
We provide all the necessary equipment (yoga mats, weights, balls, etc). We recommend you bring a water bottle and towel. If you are participating in kickboxing please bring wraps for class. We offer yoga mats and kickbox wraps for your purchase at the Hub. For all classes be sure to wear appropriate attire including clean athletic shoes.
ID POLICY
Patrons must present their CATcard (or GetMobile app) for participation in class. Present your CATcard at the Group Fitness Hub check-in station prior to entering class. Please arrive 10 minutes before class.
WHAT IF I WANT TO BRING A GUEST?
A single class group fitness pass is $12 (credit card only). You can bring a guest for a single class by charging your Campus Recreation account at the Hub when you are checking into class. If the guest has a membership they can charge the $12 pass fee to their Campus Recreation account. The participant to be charged will get an email within 48 hours with instructions on how to pay the balance online.
CLASS SIZE & EQUIPMENT
Class size is limited by equipment and space. Arrive early to assure your spot in class as all drop-in classes are first-come, first-served.
CLASS LEVEL AND TYPE
All of our classes are designed to accommodate a wide range of participants. It is always advised you check the class description online to choose the classes that best suit your needs. Our classes are offered in a variety of formats and are divided in mind/body, strength, and cardio.
5 WAY TO SET UP FOR VIRTUAL CLASS
- Bring a towel, water, and go to the bathroom before the class begins.
- Work out in a way that feels respectful and safe for your body.
- Set up equipment before class starts.
- Let the desk know if you have issues with accessing equipment, bike set up, lighting, volume, or fans.
- Want a different release or class, come see us at the desk, we can change this!
