Personal Training Policies

Registration and Payment

Register online for your package at any time.

  • A potential client can register online for your desired package at any time.
  • To register fill out the client interest form.
  • Payment for any package must be made before sessions commence, including if you are a returning client.
  • Semi-private and group training participants must purchase packages separately.
  • Purchased sessions are non-refundable.
    • Refunds will only be provided in the following instances:
      • Campus Recreation is unable to provide a personal trainer to a client.
      • If a client needs to be referred to a specialist outside the scope of our practice.
      • Documented medical conditions.

Scheduling

  • All clients will be assigned a trainer before the session begins. The trainer will contact clients by the session start date.
  • Please note: You MUST have facility access to the Gucciardi Recreation & Fitness Center with your UVM ID or membership card for each training session to access the fitness center.
    • You must be 18 or older to access the fitness center. If you are not currently a member please view membership options here.

Outside/Private Training

  • Personal trainers are only permitted to train Campus Recreation clients on behalf of Campus Recreation at our facility. Training outside the Recreation Center (e.g., parks, homes) is not allowed.

Lapsed Sessions

  • All training packages expire at the end of the session, and clients can expect up to one training session per week.
  • New clients and clients with a lapse in training can also expect a remote intake and an assessment beyond their weekly training sessions.
  • All unused sessions due to schedule changes will be lost. Lost sessions are non-refundable.

Session Cancellation

  • If a client needs to cancel a session, you must contact your personal trainer 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.
  • Sessions canceled with less than 24-hours notice, "no shows," or if the client arrives 15 minutes late, will count against the total sessions as a normal session and will not be rescheduled.

Changing Personal Trainers

  • We recognize that individuals may wish to work with another trainer for various reasons. We are committed to making the client's experience with Campus Recreation personal training safe, comfortable, and rewarding.
  • If a client wishes to change trainers, please call the fitness programs office at (802) 656-8058 or email personaltraining@uvm.edu. If adequate staffing exists, we will be happy to assign a different personal trainer. Please note that reassigned trainers may not have the same availability initially requested.

Maintaining Healthy Habits

Personal training is intended to motivate clients to begin or continue living a healthy lifestyle. Trainers retain the right to refuse to work with a client who:

  • Has not eaten recently (clients should eat a meal approximately one to two hours prior to every session).
  • Is exhibiting signs of overtraining.
  • Is legitimately ill.
  • Is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Is disrespectful to their trainer or unable to engage in a safe manner.

The trainer feels that training with the client will be detrimental to the client's health and well-being.

Clients agree to inform their Personal Trainer of any changes in their health status.
